Boletín diciembre ADAO

02 Diciembre 2020

As 2020 comes to an end, ADAO wants to ask for your support once more today on Giving Tuesday. As an independent organization, your donations enable us to advance ADAO's education, advocacy, and community efforts. With your continued support, we are confident we will continue making huge strides in 2021 to advance prevention efforts to protect Americans from asbestos found in homes, schools, workplaces, and on consumer shelves. Even during a pandemic, our 2020 accomplishments are impressive.

For nearly 17 years, ADAO has been a leader in asbestos prevention and policy efforts. As this year comes to an end, we sincerely thank our Platinum Simmons Hanly Conroy, Gold American Federation of Teachers and Motley Rice, Silver Early, Lucarelli, Sweeney & Meisenkothen, Omaze/CAF America, and Weitz & Luxenberg, and Bronze International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers for supporting our national and international work. In addition to sponsors, we want to thank everyone who has recognized our work with individual donations too. You fuel ADAO.

Earlier this month, ADAO counsel Bob Sussman, JD, argued on ADAO’s behalf before the Honorable Judge Edward Chen of the District Court for the Northern District of California. The case, filed by ADAO, five other public health organizations, and 11 Attorneys General, would compel the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to require long-overdue asbestos reporting under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). We are eternally grateful to Bob for being on the legal and legislative home-front to advance prevention and policy to eliminate asbestos exposure.

If you’d like to honor or remember a Mesothelioma Warrior through our annual candle lighting tradition, please fill out this Google form by December 15, 2020. We will lovingly remember those Meso Warriors on Dec. 28, and will offer our support to those who courageously fight on Jan. 4.

ADAO held another successful Zoom conversation, this time with the incredible Meso Warriors Mavis and Ray Nye The couple spoke about Mavis’s Mesothelioma diagnosis, treatment, their asbestos victim advocacy organization, and how to fight through a difficult situation. The full video is below.

We also presented “Asbestos: The Impact on Health, Prevention, and Policy” at the second National Conference in Portugal. Although we were sad to not connect in person this year, the virtual event was a smashing success. We would like to give a special thanks to Carmen Lima for inviting ADAO. Together, we make change happen, and ADAO is grateful for our international community.

We wish everyone a happy holiday season, and look forward to connecting with you in 2021!

With deep gratitude,

Linda Reinstein
